Over the years, the store on Viale Africa 42 in Catania has represented a place devoted not only to window and façade systems, but also to culture and experimentation. Within this context, FUTURA MEMORIA, a cultural program curated by Salvatore Gozzo, has hosted music, visual arts and moments of shared reflection.
Futura Memoria has taken shape as an oxymoron capable of connecting past and future, proposing itself as a manifesto for a vision of design understood also as cultural responsibility. The events have been conceived as opportunities for dialogue—true laboratories of thought—continuing a path of growth developed over time.

The interdisciplinary nature of the program has encouraged dialogue between different languages, reaffirming memory as a root and the future as a design-driven tension. Within this balance, each event has contributed to building a shared vision.

Futura Memoria has also been a convivial experience: chef Seby Sorbello and sommelier Mauro Cutuli, partners in the project with Sabir Gourmanderie, have accompanied each event with food and wine paths inspired by the themes explored, reinterpreting the Etnean tradition in a contemporary key.

The opening event of the program, Hybrid Landscapes by Atelier Crilo, has represented a significant moment of reflection on the relationship between representation and design. Curated by architect and blogger Salvatore D’Agostino, the exhibition has presented the work of the studio founded by Cristian Farinella and Lorena Greco.
Through an approach combining hand drawing and digital tools, Atelier Crilo has explored the construction of hybrid landscapes—visions in which drawing has become a tool for design research. What emerged is a reading of landscape as a dynamic system, continuously evolving between memory and future possibilities.

“The Hybrid Landscapes of Atelier Crilo are image landscapes which speculate, with irony, on controversial themes in the architecture of the last years: the intensive development, even in a period of strong economic recession, of the vertical architecture of urban landscapes of planet Earth; the unbuilt spaces in densely built cities; the ruins within a city of buildings which have recently terminated their economic cycle; the fascination for isolated houses with high economic and aesthetic value”

SPACE / TIME / LIGHT / SOUND has been a project by the Associazione Musicale Etnea, curated by Biagio Guerrera and Luca Recupero.
As the second event of FUTURA MEMORIA, it has proposed an experimental encounter between sound and vision, developed around themes of travel, transition and passage. Space and time have been fragmented and multiplied, then recomposed into new perceptual combinations and unprecedented structures.

“The Siberian harmonic song by Sainkho Namtchylak, the marranzano, the mouth harps and other organic sounds of the ethnic traditions by Luca Recupero, through the prism of electronic processing by Dudu Arona, are the soundtrack of a kaleidoscopic journey from villages to metropoles, from spaceships in orbit to huts in rain forests drawn by Kranti - Giovanni Lombardo”

The conversation on cinema between Piero Messina and Giuseppe Lorenti has offered a dialogue on passion, art and the craft of filmmaking: a journey through vision, memory and fiction, retracing the steps that led the director from early experimental works to his feature debut, The Wait.
The event has been realized in collaboration with Off Cinestudio and Leggo. Presente Indicativo, the literary series organized by Radio Lab, with the support of Indigo Film.

Speaking of Sicily, cinema, and directors to chase:
“Sicily and childhood, both synonyms of wonder and origin of my images” and “as a director, but even more as spectator, I love films which I cannot tell with words”.
On Sokurov: “I chased after him as a cinema student to know how he was able to do certain things; it was nice to see myself in competition against him in a festival”
(Piero Messina interviewed by Giuseppe Lorenti, Catania, 2017).

KNOWING:DOING = GOOD:BEAUTIFUL is the “equation of taste,” the book written by chef Seby Sorbello with Susanna Cutini and Alex Revelli Sorini, presented within FUTURA MEMORIA on June 17, 2016.
The meeting has explored the four elements identified by the author to define the essence of taste, balancing knowledge and practice, capable of transforming food into an emotional and memorable experience.

Research, experimentation and autoproduction are some of the themes on which today many protagonists of contemporary inclination confront themselves.
There does not exist only industry anymore, with its logic and possibilities, its big scale productive dimension and the global dynamics of the big market, but also the local dimension, the artisan work, the limited-number productions.

Presente Artigiano, curated by Lucia Giuliano with Vittorio Venezia and Abadir Academy of Design and Visual Arts, brought a reflection on these dynamics into FUTURA MEMORIA through a selection of objects and the work of designers capable of promoting new processes and visions: Federico Angi, Álvaro Catalán de Ocón, Francesco Faccin and Vittorio Venezia.

Vittorio Venezia has lead instead a group of students from the Academy for Design and Visual Arts Abadir, who have explored the theme of the infinite variations of the vase, delving into the manufacturing of pottery and interpreting in very different ways the theme of process and language.
At Presente Artigiano a multiform variety of their experiments was shown, as a tale of a training path.

The MinimalWindows sliding systems by KELLER, with their reduced profiles capable of dissolving the boundary between inside and outside, have provided the starting point for a reflection on the act of seeing.
The collective Deep Sheet Studiolab (Luca Pulvirenti, Luigi Mignemi, Cristina Santangelo) has developed a compositional path in which the window has become a transitional element and a creative device, capable of redefining the relationship between architecture and perception.

“Looking through the window, light and colour are reflected in the panorama, interpreting it as stratification of knowledge and culture. Gazing through the window, the perceptual experience thus describes the panoptic realm from the individual to the community.
Almost in juxtaposition the screen of the monitor intimately connects us to the world, our personal window on what comes to us. No longer a window into the world, but rather a way to compose and construct the world.
Windows therefore become the supreme instrument of the creative act”
(Luca Pulvirenti, Panographie, 2017).
